The wizard who came back

starstarstarstarstar
I wasn't sure about this based on the art style, but this was super heart warming and cute! It started to feel like Harvest Moon after a while, and the art reminded me of it too.

Zanmu - Labyrinth -

starstarstarstarstar
This is so great, the story is extremely compelling, the art is breath taking. I have not stop shaking since I started this series. It's really amazes me at every turn, truly something that I've been wanting to read in years.

Chika's Forest

starstarstarstarstar
Chika's Forest is a soft read, something light and warm hearted to have in your mind before bed.
The story of "Chika's Forest" starts quite light and simple, but delve deeper and you'll begin to find a very magical truth within the forest. You'll be enchanted by the mountain goddess and her mysterious son, Grandpa Batata the sweet potato fairy and Hanazuke the flower monkey, and even just the everyday mortal world! The art style and story telling is reminiscent of Ghibli productions, and was clearly inspired by "My Neighbour Totoro" which is not at all a bad thing, as the character and fairy designs still breath fresh air onto the pages.
If you're looking for something quick and easy, whether you're a veteran manga reader or if this would be your first, I highly recommend.

Lost Youth

starstar_borderstar_borderstar_borderstar_border
Pretty terrible. I feel that it was trying to portray the fickleness of youth and adolescence but the constant change in character perspective made it difficult to feel any empathy for any of the characters including the main character. While it's been marked as complete, it leaves a bad taste as you're left confused to what actually happened. There are other stories out there that does a better job at portraying a "dark but pure love story" and the only good thing about this series would be the pretty art style.

Kotonoha

starstarstarstarstar
Very, very cute and fluffy manga about two young adult lesbians. Refreshingly soft and sweet.

Under Duress

More or less something you would see out of a doujin of this genre but more on the softcore side.

Matching Our Answers

starstarstarstarstar
The cover first drew me in and I feel that the art style really compliment the dark tone of the manga. The series is not for the faint of heart and shows two children trying to live in their abusive, neglected household but each chapter is super interested and it's sweet how they try to support each other.

Open Sesame

starstarstarstar_borderstar_border
Although the story seems to follow the same footsteps as the average 80's sports/romance/shonen manga, The 80's aesthetic definitely adds some charm to the series, and the writing and artwork are competent enough to be enjoyable. Open Sesame definitely reminds me of series such as Golden Boy and Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk at face value, however this series lacks the skill or craft that both Golden Boy and Slam Dunk have, and I would definitely recommend those series over this any day. However this was enjoyable enough to merit 3 stars. If you think this might be for you feel free to give it a read.

I Don't Even Have Time to Live

starstarstarstarstar_border
The artstyle for Nakano's I Don't Even Have Time to Live is extremely simple and is reminiscent of ONE's masterpiece One Punch Man. However the simplistic artstyle of Nakano's manga only serves to its benefit, as having a featureless protagonist aids in making the reader feel like the main character is extremely relateable. This is easily one of the most realistic portrayals of depression that I have ever read in a manga, and the easily consumable nature of the manga made me read chapter after chapter without putting it down. I can't help but feel a strong connection to the protagonist and perhaps the writer, as the depictions of depression are so realistic that perhaps they are events that have happened to the writer himself, I can only hope that both the protagonist and Nakano's situation improves and that they can ultimately find happiness and learn love themselves. Definitely give this a read!

The 10 O'clock Rule

starstarstar_borderstar_borderstar_border
maybe itll change in a few more chapters, but the first two chapters were a little...

the black haired one deserves a boyfriend who loves him, but at the same time, what kind of creep kisses people all the time when theyve said no over and over? he apologized, at least, but then theres the matter of the other one being so hung up on what happend when they were teenagers, hes only into vastly younger people? and the black haired one going for a teenager just to spite the other one? nuh uh. no go. but the arts pretty okay !

Sinner

starstarstarstarstar_border
This manga has a serious topic. What if you know that a newborn child will become a criminal? Does it still deserve to be raised? Or should it be disposed of? This is a very interesting setting and draws the reader right into the story. The art is fine, but it could have been made darker which would fit the topic and setting. At some points the reading flow (the way the panels are placed) are a bit different than usual. However, that is not the reason I only gave 4 out of 5 stars. The reason is that the manga's story is a serious one, but it seems to have some comedic moments making it seem less serious. (This is probably due to the fact that this manga is supposed to be a Shounen manga. This is pretty unfortunate, because of the serious topic that should not be made light of. Seinen would fit so much better. Therefore, 4/5 stars, because I don't think it will become a masterpiece, but just a good and interesting manga.)

The Forbidden Island

starstarstar_borderstar_borderstar_border
Within the first chapter of The Forbidden Island I was rather unimpressed, the writing isn't necessarily compelling and the artwork is serviceable at best, although there is some intrigue with the introduction of the character Anna and how the rescue boat can only carry 5 out of the 6 people on the island, I find myself knowing so little about these 2-dimensional characters that I can barely care enough to continue reading. There are definitely better manga such as Zanmu to read on Manga Club.

Under Duress

starstar_borderstar_borderstar_borderstar_border
Unfortunately Under Duress seems to fall below expectations in every regard. The extremely poor page layout and panel structure easily confuse the reader, with the transition into flashback being virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the manga. Although the character designs are appealing enough, the extremely wooden and lifeless character poses make the artwork fall flat on it's face. The plot seems to be an uninspired rip off of almost virtually any run of the mill light novel and does not seem interesting enough to carry the reader through the rest of the narrative. I say give this one a pass.

Zanmu - Labyrinth -

starstarstarstar_borderstar_border
I have to admit, within its brief first 4 chapters, Zanmu by Yuta Kayashima has taken me on a wild ride. While the first chapter of Zanmu left me a bit disappointed, especially after the gripping opening torture scene quickly pulls in the reader, and doing a great job at setting the tone of the story, I felt critically underwhelmed by Kayashima's inconsistent art. It seems that Kayashima's real strength lies in the utterly disturbing Saw-esque torture and gore scenes exhibited within these first few chapters, while the dialogue heavy, story building scenes where characters are simply talking definitely take a hit artistically. Both the panel structure and art as well as the dialogue between the protagonist and his older, surly partner Mr. Yodobuchi can be at times very bland and uninspired, merely being serviceable instead of truly adding to the narrative. I believe both these characters are also the weakest part of this manga, as their character designs, namely that of the protagonist

Float City

starstarstarstar_borderstar_border
The cover took my attention, the summary got me reading.
With only 2 chapters I can't say much plotwise. I really liked the summary, and the world setting is interesting and have much potential, but there is two chapters already and I have more information from the summary than from the story itself. So keeping the reader invested in the story, either the world or the characters, is something that lacked in those chapters so far (but well, it was just two chapters, I'll still check this out).
The art is good, detailed, feels like it's still finding its style.
I just thought it looked kind of stiff in the action scenes, but I'm certain the author will get the hang of that
(it reminds me of the earlier chapters from Berserk, and look where it is today =D)

Oda and Hototogi

Interesting character dynamic and quality art. Really doesn't have enough time to fully flesh out the characters, but was fun nonetheless.

You Haven't Seen The Best Of Me!

starstarstarstarstar_border
The story's art style is pretty decent and suits the story. While there are a few plotholes in the story, it is believable as the situation could occur in the real world. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but it was fun to read for a few chapters.

This was definitely an interesting read, I just wish there was more. One thing that could have been done differently is to go into more detail about the family curse, and maybe put it more towards the beginning

The Little School Nurse That Could

starstarstarstar_borderstar_border
This is a manga for you if you like looking at artwork and not much of a story plot. The artwork is nice and there's some ecchi content thrown in here and there. The font can be improved as it looks like chicken scratch. The flow of the story seems rushed as scenes just keep changing when you just about to settle into the previous scene.

Sinner

starstarstarstar_borderstar_border
Brave New World manga style. Well not quite that far in the process so that the system is not completely polished. Dystopian future, YA stuff. Art is not bad. First chapter sets up the world's system. With this being a setting you may have gotten over many other titles; You may have had the desire that the characters get a bit more of the spotlight in the first chapter. Might give the next chapter a read if I'm caught up with all my other series.

Patricia

starstarstarstarstar_border
Just started this because I wanted horror, and my mom's name happens to be Patricia, so I was like, what the heck might as well choose this one!

I have only read the first chapter but it's very promising and I will continue to read.

It starts off with what is presumably "the friend" getting chomped on by some boring giant all black thing with human like teeth, then goes to the main character..............

-1 for monster design, too generic and boring
+/-0 for world design, the other world (alternate reality?) is basically copy pasted from stories with horror/post apocalyptic settings.

starstarstarstarstar_border
The start is a little less intriguing than I'd like it to be. However, once you delve deeper into the story, things start to build up and the plot thickens. Having only read the first three chapters, I'd say if you like drama manga, this one, for the most part, will keep you interested.

Chika's Forest

starstarstarstarstar
This fun manga combines the nostalgia of childhood with the magic of forest spirits. It's a fun combination that's hard to beat. :) What if the fanciful imagination of childhood turned out to be more than just fantasy? Story has a very "Through the Looking Glass" vibe, and it's enjoyable.

It was a pretty good manga to read. Lots of action. I like the characters that are introduced so far. Looking forward to continuing this series.

It's a funny book, and the simple art style really does a great job of conveying the message. Some of the chapters were relatable, and with a friend with depression, this helped me understand some of the struggles he'll be facing.

Great book
